On this date, in both 2014, as well as in 2015, “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day shared its first two profiles of U.S. Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma, a man who cites the Bible as the evidence he needs to refute climate change (even contradicting Pope Francis’ stance on the issue based on his Bible stance, which the Pope is kind of also an expert on), which he does with a passion beyond possibly any other Republican in Congress, most famously in the still frame above from C-SPAN, where he presented a snowball in Washington, D.C. in February as indisputable proof. He’s also proudly bragged about his dedication to discrimination over his refusal to have ever employed a single gay staffer in his entire Congressional career, and boasted how there are no gay people amongst any of his 11 children or 47 grandchildren on the floor of the Senate. Inhofe once declared 9-11 was “God’s Judgment on the American people for not doing enough to help Israel”. He also expressed his outrage in 2004 when the photos of American soldiers abusing detainees at the Abu Ghraib prison leaked to the public, because he thought everyone was making a fuss over people who deserved what they were getting. Inhofe not only once participated in a Republican filibuster of a bill from New York Senator Kristen Gillibrand that was aimed at preventing military sexual assault, but on the anniversary of that filibuster, he single-handedly moved to block her from bringing the bill to the floor for another vote. He has claimed there are no instances of fracking ever contaminating groundwater, anywhere. Oh, and rounding things out, James Inhofe voted against relief funding for Hurricane Sandy, which is rather hypocritical considering how much he falls all over himself to get disaster relief funding whenever any part of Oklahoma gets hit by a tornado (which is pretty frequent).
So, it’s our third look at Sen. Inhofe, who continues to not budge from his reputation as being one of the most ignorant and obstinate conservatives on Capitol Hill:
- September 22nd, 2015: Inhofe votes for HR 36, the Pain Capable Unborn Child Act, which would ban abortion at 20 weeks.December 3rd, 2015: Democrats produce some common sense gun legislation, that anyone who is found to be on a terror watch list during a background check should not be allowed to purchase a firearm or explosives (which they could use to carry out a terror attack). Well, James Inhofe loves the Second Amendment way more than he hates terrorism, as he voted against it.
- December 2nd, 2015: Sen. Inhofe again is a guest of Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins, in all his hate-group leading glory, on “Washington Watch” again and criticizes President Obama for attending a conference on climate change in Paris because climate change science “ignores God’s power”.
- December 3rd, 2015: Inhofe votes for the GOP’s 62nd attempt at repealing the Affordable Care Act, in spite of the fact that it’s still working better than expected.
- January 20th, 2016: James Inhofe votes for the American Security Against Foreign Enemies Act, reacting to the terror attacks in Paris by jihadists from France and Belgium by trying to create greater restrictions to keep out Syrian refugees, of whom exactly zero were involved in those attacks.
- February 17th, 2016: Sen. Inhofe is one of many Republicans who publicly refuse to hold hearings for any potential nominees to the Supreme Court to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia, shirking his constitutional duty to find a replacement.
- May 17th, 2016: Shortly after Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid gives a speech to honor International Day Against Homophobia,Transphobia and Biphobia, and praise the White House for their work on transgender rights, an outraged James Inhofe took to the floor of the Senate to bitterly rant about President Obama’s decision to move towards respecting the rights of the transgendered to use the restroom of their choice:
Frankly, if you want to know if you’re on the right side of history, remaining opposite of James Inhofe is an easy way to go about it.
- May 19th, 2016: Inhofe votes against funding for the prevention of the spread of Zika Virus. Really an amazing decision from a hardcore "pro-life” Republican, right?
- June 20th, 2016: Sen. Inhofe votes against Senate Amendment 4720, to prohibit the transfer of firearms to suspected terrorists… because kowtowing to the NRA is more important to her than preventing terrorism.
- July 26th, 2016: Inhofe gives a radio interview where he talks about how his granddaughter came home from school “brainwashed” and talked to him about how she learned about climate change, so he had to “un-brainwash” her to believe it was a myth, like he does (My soul hurts, how about yours?).
James Inhofe, deranged fanatic that he is, will remain in the Senate until at least 2021, barring any sudden resignations or calamities that occur to politicians.
